My name is Ferenc Ségercz, I’m the operator of this page, I’ve been working with shepherd’s flute, its use, making and I’ve been getting to know it for quite some time. So i created this website with the intention of helping those who are willing to get in touch with the traditional shepherd pipe. I offer you this page with the intention to introduce you to this old wind instrument, the shepherd’s flute, which is widespread in the Carpathian Pool.
I have been involved in the last years with studying, creating and collecting these traditional instruments, as well as with teaching and bringing back traditional music into the life of the modern man.
My intention is to help you in this pursuit by providing you with thorough examination and documentation of the traditions and the music that the elders taught us. Here you will find, among other things, a complete pedagogical guide on the use of the instrument, from basic to advanced. I will try to answer common questions you may have about this instrument, you can find these in the following sections according to your own interests. In addition, workshop secrets and tips.
Here you will be met with written descriptions, video tutorials, lessons for both beginner and advanced students, analyses of style elements of this music and videos of traditional players, Heritage musicians, (”rapsozi” in Romanian, “adatközlő” in hungarian).
